HEX Fun

When your job consists of working with web code all day long sometimes it can become boring and mundan and even sprit crushing when you’re working on a project that seems to never go right or when you have a client that you wish you could just smack.

Then there are times when you have to force yourself to have fun with what you’ve got — “lemonaid with lemons.”

Today a friend of mind sent me a link to a site that has taken some time to play with the HEX code and turn them into words.

One of the comments, states that these would make great t-shirts, I tend to agree — it would be very cool and “geeky.”

Have a look.

Roll your own Ruby, Rubygems, Rails, and Mongrel on Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard)

Came across a great “walk-through,” here are the…

”…instructions for compiling and installing Ruby, Rubygems, Ruby on Rails, and Mongrel on Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard).”

Great for those who would like to get “geeky” and dive into the OS behind OS X or if you’re curious about the compile and build process.

Looking For A Sponsor to Help Fund My Trip to SXSW

That’s right I’m looking for a sponsor or sponsors. Why, do you ask? Well I’m heading down to Austin, TX on my own dime because my current employer (a fortune 500 company) is to cheap to send me to industry related events for my field of expertise — web design and development. I even have to take personal vacation time to attend. Hugh bummer huh?

Anyway, I will entertain just about any idea, within reason of course. I will not do nudity, of any kind, such as streaking, I will not do any violent, hurtful, dishonest, illegal, or malicious acts to myself, others, or property. However, I will, for example, wear your logo t-shirt and/or ball-cap, pass out your business cards and/or other marketing materials, give out “swag” (i.e., your promotional merchandise — but only those that I can carry in the small pouch of my backpack) and/or collect business cards from other merchants and attendees. I’ll even take pictures with my iphone for proof.

In exchange I ask that you or your company to pay for my services (e.g., $100/day to wear your t-shirt and pass out business cards or more for the more elaborate tasks).

This is a great opportunity if your target market is or might be attending the Interactive portion of SXSW.

Leave a commit if you’re interested.

A Personal Request for Apple’s Apple TV – Add TiVo and Netflix

A few years ago when Apple launched their Apple TV it was a great concept, but it missed the mark — and sales, or the lack of, proved that.

Then just recently Apple announced a better version of the Apple TV with a larger hard drive and better services/features through an upgraded version of iTunes . The biggest feature being that of the ability to rent t.v. shows and movies. But again, in my humble opinion, Apple missed the mark.

However, I still think the Apple TV has a lot of potential and room for enhancements.

Steve Jobs — Listen up. If you want me, and many others, to buy the Apple TV consider buying out TiVo and/or offering a true t.v. service like them. Take an “iLife” approach and provide a full integration and use of the t.v. to make my life better the Apple way. Next, consider doing what Netflix already does but without the physical DVDs — offer your “rental service” on a flat rate program. For example, have the option to watch unlimited movies, but only one-download-at-a-time, each month for $19.95 a month.

Anyway, it’s just my”two cents” and I’m looking forward to future versions of the Apple TV — because honestly, if I’m going to spend my hard-earned dollar on a product or service I would rather give it to Apple because Apple just “gets it.” Well at least when it comes to software, computers, iPods, and iPhones — all of which I currently have and use.
